Chris Booer trained in Botany and Microbiology at Swansea University, before joining BRi in 1973 as a Research Scientist where he was initially involved in various aspects of research into barley physiology and malting performance.

He became closely involved in the design and installation of the BRi 50kg pilot malting plant in 1986 and has since had responsibility for the maintenance and operation of this plant as well as for BRi micromalting laboratory, the 2kg maltings and the development of the ISO 9001: 2000 quality system in the BRi pilot maltings.

Chris has developed a wide range of knowledge and expertise in relation to the malting, kilning and roasting of barley, wheat and other cereals.

In addition to providing technical support services for core research projects, Chris plays a major role in variety trials carried out on behalf of the Institute of Brewing.

Chris is widely consulted in his specialist field and is heavily involved in providing training programmes on behalf of Member Companies - in the UK and internationally.
